Mission Trip!
Youth Mission Trip begins on Saturday!
Please keep Joe, Peter, Chris, Hannah and Dana in your prayers as they travel to Costa Rica with other youth from the Episcopal Diocese of Easton. Their flight leaves on Saturday and they will return on July 31st.
While there, they will help build a church and participate in VBS. They will bring and share 36 Spanish bibles donated by our parish. We are prayerful that God will give wisdom to those speaking and teaching, and listening ears to the people they come in contact with during the trip.
Please pray for their safe travel:
“O God, our heavenly Father, whose glory fills the whole creation, and whose presence we find wherever we go: Preserve those who travel, in particular our Youth Mission Trip; surround them with your loving care; protect them from every danger; and bring them in safety to their journey’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
Pokémon sitings!
Pokémon have been sited at St. Mary Anne’s! Young people all around the world are quite excited!
Yes, Pokémon has been found at two different locations in the SMA graveyard!
For those of you who are confused, there is a “Pokémon Go” app for smart phones that was just released last week.
Pokémon Go uses your phone’s GPS and clock to detect where and when you are in the game, and make Pokémon characters “appear” around you (on your phone screen). Once you locate a Pokémon, you can go and catch them.
As you move around, different and more types of Pokémon will appear depending on where you are and what time it is. The idea is to encourage you to travel around the real world to catch Pokémon in the game. The technology is called “augmented reality” and combines gaming and real world interaction.
Many historic landmarks, parks and churches are included in this game.
So since our church yard is open, you may see a few people occasionally standing around with their phones as they hunt for Pokémon!
Now, we just need them to venture into church on Sunday’s, in search of Jesus!
Education for Ministry (EfM)
Education for Ministry (EfM)
St. Mary Anne’s has had a long history of an active Education for Ministry (EfM) group. After a short break as we welcomed Father John and Karen, we will be looking to begin another group at a time that fits the schedule of those who were unable to join the group that was previously held during the morning. Please check the bulletin and the E-News as we will be looking to have an organizational / information meeting soon. If you have ever thought about taking EfM or finding out what it is all about, please either let the VPOW know; contact Carol Weisel or call the office.
Don’t let the title fool you, EfM is not a course that prepares people for ordained ministry. The goal of the four year course of EfM is to bring Biblical teaching and principles into everyday life. We read Biblical passages every week in church and many of us read them at home each day but what does it really mean to us today? Are the teachings still relevant in the 21stcentury?
Each week the EfM group explores part of the history of the Bible and the founding of the church to see how we came to the beliefs that we profess each week. We also look at events in our own lives and in the world and through a process called Theological Reflection (TR). This process of Theological Reflection brings the Bible and other traditional literature alive in the world today.
Another aspect of the EfM group is helping us as Christians finding the way in which we fulfill our call the ministry as we are asked to do. EfM helps us to see that ministry comes in many forms and in many places. This process gives us the time and the space to discern God’s call to us as individuals in the world.
