3rd Lenten Supper

March 16, 2017 by St Mary Anne Admin

marine biologyMark your calendars and join us for our third Lenten Supper on Sunday, March 19th, from 5:00-7:00PM in the Parish Hall.
Don’t miss out this week as we have a brief overview of the science base of biological evolution and its relation to religion.
This week’s presenter will be parishioner and marine biologist, Mac Taylor.
Don’t miss a week of these informative discussions!
About Mac Taylor:

mtaylor-lgMac Taylor grew up in Annapolis, MD, exploring and boating on the creeks and marshes off the Severn River. This interest became a career focus leading to a Ph.D. in Physiology from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and postdoctoral research in endocrinology at the University of Pittsburgh. Mac returned to the Bay area as a Research Associate at the University of Delaware, supervising the field sampling operations for the University’s part in an ecological survey of the C & D Canal. He moved on to a faculty position in biology at the University of Delaware, teaching courses in physiology and fish biology  and focusing his research on reproductive cycles of local fishes. Since retiring in 2006, Mac has sailed as part of the environmental education team on the skipjack Martha Lewis and become involved in water quality monitoring for the Elk and North East River Watershed Association (ENERWA), in addition to helping with the North Elk Coffee House, St. Mary Anne’s Train Day and the Church cemetery.

Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop at Jesus House

March 3, 2017 by St Mary Anne Admin

centering prayerApril 8, 2017 from 9:30-3:30PM; Cost $40.00 (includes lunch)

This introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop is for those new to Centering Prayer, as well as those who already practice this prayer. The practices of Centering Prayer allows us to open to the presence and action of God not only during the prayer period but also during the activities of every day life. It offers and approachable way of deepening the intimacy with God and increasing one’s capacity to live a fully Christian life. One long-term practitioner wishes that this practice had been available when she was a young person, so that her relationship with God could have deepened much earlier. We welcome teens and adults of all ages to this workshop. In addition to the 6-hour workshop on April 8th, there will be six optional weekly followup sessions at Resurrection Parish (3000 Videre Dr., Wilmington, DE 19808) on Thursday evenings at 7:00PM.

Presenters: Roseanne M. Havird, Contemplative Outreach Contact Person from SE Pennsylvania and Bev Roberts, Contemplative Outreach Contact Person from Delaware. To register: www.jesushousecenter.org.

Our St. Mary Anne’s Centering Prayer coordinator is Kate Burchess.
