A Good Old-Fashioned Parish Picnic at the Coudon Farm!
The Coudon family has graciously planned a parish-wide “Good Old-Fashioned Parish Picnic” at their family farm, on Saturday, September 10th at 2:00PM. Delicious picnic food, fun games, face painting, pony rides and even, an animal petting zoo will be part of the day’s festivities!
The Coudon’s extend this invitation to all parishioners and their families—children and grandchildren—and even, friends and neighbors! This is a wonderful opportunity for fellowship, to make new friends, and to build the church family of St. Mary Anne’s.
What to bring??? All food is provided, but we would like to have a table of home baked pies for that old-fashioned church picnic atmosphere and taste. If you can, please bring a home-made pie to share.
Sign-ups begin on Sunday with the VPOW. You can also email or call the church office. It is important for us to have an accurate count for planning by September 4th. Directions will be provided. Carpooling from the church can be arranged.
The Youth Missionaries are Back Home!
We were excited to send some of our SMA youth on a mission trip to Costa Rica this July. Our youth missionaries, in collaboration with the Diocese of Easton, helped build a church and participated in Vacation Bible Study with local children. Our parish donated 36 Spanish Bibles for the villagers.
In April of this year, the group hosted a Costa Rican Dinner in our Parish Hall. Those in attendance learned a little bit about the trip and the goals of the mission team, and tasted delicious Costa Rican food prepared by the youth and a few parents. Funds from the dinner went toward the mission trip fundraising goals.
During the Garden Market, pretzels were sold along with chances to win a “money tree”. Additional fundraisers, including an Envelope Drive, a neighborhood yard sale, two benefit dinners at local restaurants, and a jewelry sale, helped raise the funds necessary for this journey.
On August 14th, the returning missionaries will report to the parish about their experiences, and share pictures, during the Adult Education Hour.
Blessing of the Backpacks
On Sunday, August 28th, our parish is offering students some divine help! Students of all ages are invited to bring their backpack or book bag to church for a Blessing of the Backpacks at our 8:00 and 10:30 Services.
Many of us are starting a new school year and August is a busy month of preparation. We finish our reading assignments; find out our teacher’s names; discover who is in our classes; and we shop for back to school supplies for our backpacks. We are ready to learn!
Yet, Jesus teaches his disciples that it is not just the things we do and the things we have that are important, but rather it is the feelings and thoughts that we have in our hearts that matter most. That is why at the Blessing of the Backpacks, we will gather to celebrate the beginning of the new school year and to thank God for our students and teachers and ask that all their schools will be dynamic places of learning and discovery for them. We will ask that this year will be full of promise, that they will experience new beginnings and grow in knowledge and wisdom during their school year. And finally, we will ask that God bless them with understanding and respect for one another and that they will be guided by his love. In this way, we hope that their backpacks will be a sign to them that they will have everything they need to learn and grow this year in school and in Sunday school.
Everyone in the community is invited to bring their backpack for a blessing.
